LIBIDO & CANNABIS

This week I decided to research the connection between Cannabis and libido. I ran into the same issue as last week such that there is not true definitive research done on this topic. “A lot of the understanding that needs to go into a discussion around cannabis and sexuality has less to do with cannabis and more to do with sexuality,” Jordan Tishler, M.D. All tests on the subject were through self reported surveys, asking about sex drive, arousal, orgasm, lubrication, and overall experience.  When taking a survey there are factors that play into their answers, like biological, social, psychological. All tests did end up having a slightly higher percentage of people that said cannabis did heighten their experience. It always comes back to how the cannabinoids enter your endocannabinoids in your body and create the entourage effect. The tests also had different results for males and females, and unfortunately gentlemen we get the short stick on this one.

How does cannabis impact sex?  Your body already makes its own cannabinoids in the areas of sexual function in your brain. So adding to that count could certainly have an effect.  The endocannabinoid 2-AG is released at orgasm in your body also can be enhanced. Cannabis increases blood flow which we all know is how we guys GET UP into the mood. We also already know that cannabis helps with anxiety and pain which has its factors.  The questions that have not been answered is what forms of consuming have the greatest effect. Is it high THC content, concentrates, edibles? We don't know which one has the greatest effect, but now we have products that are specifically geared to help in this department like lubes & sprays, dose pens, and body oils. There is even a specific strain called CONNECT that is genetically engineered for libido that is available in flower and cartridges.

We always get the question: do you want the bad or good news first? Let's start with the guys which is of course the bad news.  Cannabis already has the reputation of being a herbal aphrodisiac and enhancing a man's orgasm, but also has been proven to reduce sperm count, contribute to erectile dysfunction, and premature ejaculation.  You probably felt like you just got punched in the gut, I know I did. The sperm count thing doesn't bother me as much because I already have a munchkin and would look forward to one or two more maybe but that's about it. The premature ejaculation I can understand with the increased blood flow and how good cannabis makes a person feel helps to reduce anxiety and stress to allow you to focus on the experience in that moment, but I wouldn't recommend using it as an excuse (OOOPS I am just too high). You would probably just get laughed at.  The worst is the E.D. issue. I know they make pills for that kind of thing, but I am one of those that enjoys a natural healing remedy and I am not sure if cannabis can truly do that. So, all of you growers out there, if you can come up with those genetics then you will help all of us guys out there stand up in appreciation.

Ladies, you are the good news in this topic.  Knowing all the benefits I already mentioned, the biggest factor is the increased blood flow.  In all studies women experienced a stronger sensation and orgasm. Women who consistently used cannabis had stronger effects.  Cannabis users had a higher frequency of sex and overall exprience by 20%. Women do have one downfall that it can affect your lubrication, but hey they make a product for that.

Cannabis affects people differently based on what form you consume and how.  So this is where you have to hold yourself accountable. Try different things and see how they enhance or hurt your sexual experience.  Make the decision together and keep your mind open to possibilities, but remember one thing, all tests reported that cannabis does increase the overall experience and more specifically the orgasm. Just figured I would end the blog with a bang.
